Shine Your Light

Matthew 5:16

“Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

What does the passage say?

  • Jesus commands us to let our light shine.
  • The purpose of this is so others may see our good works.
  • Our actions should bring glory to God, not ourselves.

What does this mean?

Who

  • Jesus is speaking to His disciples and all believers.
  • The “others” in the verse refer to everyone around us—both believers and non-believers.

What

  • What is the light?
    • The light represents Christ in us (John 8:12) and the good works that reflect His love.
    • It includes acts of kindness, integrity, and righteousness.
  • What does it mean to shine?
    • To live in a way that reflects Christ’s character.
    • To stand out through love, honesty, and faithfulness.
    • To point others to God through our actions.

Why

  • Why should we let our light shine?
    • So people can see God through our actions.
    • Because our lives are a testimony to God’s goodness.
    • To inspire and encourage others in faith.

How

  • How do we shine our light?
✅ By living with kindness and compassion.
✅ By choosing integrity even when no one is watching.
    ✅ By serving others selflessly.
✅ By sharing God’s love through our words and actions.

How can I live this out?

  • Be intentional – Look for ways to reflect God’s love in daily life.
  • Do good without seeking attention – Shine for God, not for praise.
  • Encourage someone this week – Your kindness can be the light someone needs.

💡 Reflection Question:
How can you shine your light in your family, workplace, or community?

4. PRAY – Respond to God

“Father, help me to be a light in this world. Let my actions reflect Your love and lead others to You. May I live in a way that glorifies You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
